FIRST WPI Regional / RoboScout

So 2 days into the WPI Regional and things are going great for my team from back home (228) and for the team that I now mentor (3280). We had a rough start on both robots but problems got fixed, and modifications made, and now everything seems to be running a lot smoother, and we are all ready for competition tomorrow!

As far as RoboScout goes, I just yesterday released a big update which fixed a lot of problems in the app. It now updates more frequently so the user is never on an out of date screen. Another big update included a name change of the app, now RoboScout (PRO removed), and a new App Logo.

The app also now features a [robot type] category for each team to specify additional information.

Future versions which will be available later in the week next week will include a new set of icons and new main screen layout.

RoboScout Pro

Curently in Beta, and soon available for public use, RoboScoup Pro will beccome a must-have app for any robotics team, for any competition type!

The app is compatable only with Android devices, but will in the future move to HTML, allowing it to be used on any device with internet. The app is a scouting app which will help teams seek out worthy opponents, allies, etc.. as well as track the progress of others throughout the competitions and season.

This unique app has several key features which make it stand out strong, the first being that no other app of its kind already exist!, the other being that no information that you put into the app is actually stored on your android device…. What…?!

Every time you move around in the app, it connects to a remote server, pushing and pulling the information you require.

Why does it do this??

What this allows us to do, is have say 10 people from the same team, all going around looking at other teams. In the past you would then later compare notes… But this app does it all for you! Every time the app contacts the server, it pushes the information you just saved, and pulls the information put in by other members of your scouting team.

All data is sync real time, meening that as soon as the person next to you saves his data, your phone is all ready to retrieve it, and edit it yet again.

All records are saved per team, meening that your records will never be seen by any other team, and you can not see any one elses records, so dont be afraid to be critical, it could cost you the competition!

This app is as I stated in beta, and available only to a select few. If you wish to join in on the beta test, send me a message at: matt@tinyclark.com or leave a comment on this post!

Raspberry Pi

Tonight at 1:00am(EST) Raspberry Pi was supposed to reveal its new Arm processor based ‘micro computer’. The device is the size of a credit card and provides for some high end proformance.
The device includes the following:

Arm11 Processor running at 700mhz.
GPU capable or running hdmi output at 1080p
GPU Capable of 24GFLOPs
256mb RAM
10/100 Base T Ethernet Adapter
HDMI Port
USB 2.0 x2
RCA Video
SD Card
MicroUSB Port
3.5mm Audio Jack
All in a tiny 85.6mm X 53.9mm X 17mm Package
And all for just $35.

Shortly before 1am RaspberryPi.org went offline, and at 1am, their layout was switched to a low bandwidth page format, providing links to the vendors of the board. Immediatly after, both vendors sites were incapable of being navigated, and @raspberrypi on Twitter began booming with angered potential customers.

It is currently 2:20am, 1:20 after the release of the product, and neither I, or several other friends have been able to purchase our boards. Work in the morning so it is now time for sleep, and I will attempt my order again in the morning.

University Bus Schedule

For those of you who use JWU Bus Schedule, the must have app for any Johnson and Wales student, the app will soon be replaced with the universal University Bus Schedule. The newly designed app will accomidate any school I recieve a bus schedule from, as well as display dining hall hours, and other helpful information. The app is still being developed, and a release date has not yet been determined.

New Website Design, Again

I have been busy working on Android apps, as well as desigining and programming websites for other people, and I have not been able to keep up the maintenance on my old site, so I today decided to install WordPress and use this until I have time to recreate my site. For now this will be all I need for basic blog posts with updates on app progresses.
